A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.
Although not quite at the equivalent scale as pardoning festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a second term in office.
“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The swine, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The craze became so widespread that a major dictionary recently named “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Future Secured
This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to open the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: joyful, varied, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Every time, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
