JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution Seeks to Resolve the Anime's Major Issue

JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution isn't exactly an original feature. Instead, the latest cinematic release from the JuJutsu Kaisen action franchise acts as a recap of the show's sophomore season stitched together with the opening installments of its third season, which kicks off the Culling Games narrative from the source material. This establishes Execution, which just got a fresh preview, the quickest way to see the commencement of the upcoming season ahead of its premiere in early 2026. The movie premieres in Japanese theaters on November 7, and in North American regions on December 5.

The Culling Games Plot

In the Culling Game arc, Special Grade sorcerer Yuta Okkotsu is introduced in the show and is assigned by jujutsu higher-ups to take down his peer Yuji Itadori. Their highly anticipated battle occurs for the initial time on the cinema screen, and if the artists at the studio have an exceptional piece as the two-part Thunderclap episodes prepared for audiences this festive season, JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution may turn out to be the gift that we've been waiting for.

The "Thunderclap" Controversy

"Thunderclap" from the second season is often hailed as a top-tier scene in animated series lore, despite the significant debate in last year when the series first premiered. It was reported that the creators were suffering from tight schedules to the point, and the final version that was shown at the time was incomplete and reportedly not what the team first envisioned.

The Epic Battle

The scene involves a heavily anticipated fight between two elite magic wielders, the King of Curses and the Eight-Handled Sword. It includes unique visual techniques, excellent direction, and thrilling combat. A subsequent Blu-ray release gave the animators a chance to add additional scenes to enhance the conflict. So it appeared likely Execution could enhance the fight further. However, viewing the new trailer, it's unclear if that confrontation has received any additional treatment. It'd be a letdown if it hadn't, because a scene of that magnitude has to be watched on the largest display with the optimal viewing experience.

The Second Season's Triumph

The second season of JuJutsu Kaisen elevated the franchise to become 2024's anime of the year, and when the Thunderclap episodes were premiered one after another, it was the subject of discussion for multiple weeks in the anime community. Audiences were aware of the problems with the production, which made them value what they saw even more. People eagerly awaited to see if the disc version, released on March 18, would add any additional scenes to the battle or to see if it was refined somewhat, and were thrilled to see exactly that, alongside reshades, more motion, and altered color palette.

The Feature's Advantage

But the physical release can only refine what has previously shown in the broadcast edition, whereas the movie has the chance to fully realize the scene with further changes and new animations entirely.

A Crowning Achievement

As it stands, these two episodes represent the masterpiece of JuJutsu Kaisen, and should be given special attention by the studio, especially considering the controversy they underwent at the time. It's garnered the attention of viewers all over the world, and the Culling Games storyline is a highly awaited story of the following year. If Mappa wants to start the year off right, showcase the show's top scene once again in cinemas with the best interpretation we've witnessed to date.
