Patrick Bamford Joins Sheffield United Despite Initiating Abusive Songs About Coach Chris Wilder
The striker is now a member of the Championship side just half a year after leading disrespectful taunts aimed at the team's coach, Wilder.
The 32-year-old striker, a free agent after departing from Leeds, has put pen to paper on a contract joining the second-tier club in difficulty through the winter. Bamford's lengthy time at Elland Road concluded amicably in August.
One of the player's last memorable actions while at Leeds involved leading abusive chants regarding Wilder during Leeds' promotion celebrations this spring. Now, the former England international is set to play for Wilder as the Blades’ manager looks to pull his beloved club away from the relegation zone.
Past History Involving the Striker & Wilder
The pair had previous conflict before Leeds earned promotion to the Premier League last season and United were defeated in the playoff final by Sunderland. The manager called the forward as “a muppet” back when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and Sheffield United won automatic promotion while Leeds United fell short in the playoffs.
Making Amends and Moving Forward
Everything seems to have been resolved with United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, urgently requiring of a boost in attack and Bamford aiming to revive his career.
The song about Wilder went viral this spring. A repentant Patrick and the Leeds manager, Farke, called Wilder the following day.
Chris Wilder said at the time: “Had a conversation with Patrick recently and I’ve no problem whatsoever with that. I'm uncertain regarding the language from a fellow professional! However I appreciated and respected him calling me.
“We spent a short while and similarly I spoke to Daniel as well and had a half-hour chat with him and he is a great person, a class act. When I was playing we would give it and accept it and that is part and parcel of football at every level, even on a Sunday morning. I've got no problem at all. I'm fine with the situation and I said that to Pat.”

The forward made 18 games for Leeds last season however the ex- Forest, Chelsea FC & Boro player has struggled with fitness issues over the past few seasons.
