The Two Fatalities Named in Brown University Shooting as Police Press On With Search for Perpetrator.
Two students who lost their lives in Saturday’s tragic incident at Brown University had tributes paid to them on Monday – amid a widespread hunt for their shooter carried on following the freeing by Rhode Island officials of the sole person of interest in the case.
Remembering Ella Cook
Ella Cook, a second-year scholar from Alabama, was called “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, per the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which paid tribute to her at a ceremony on Sunday.
Her role included vice-president of Brown’s branch of the campus GOP group, as the club stated. Karoline Leavitt also posted condolences publicly, remarking: “There are no words. Remembering her kin and peers, particularly her mother and father.”
MukhammadAziz Umurzokov
The other person killed was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, from Uzbekistan in his freshman year at the renowned school, his family confirmed.
Umurzokov’s identity was verified by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.
“He possessed remarkable kindness, humor, and intelligence. His ambitions were lofty of becoming a neurosurgeon and aiding others,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a online post.
Details of the Attack
Nine more persons were wounded in Saturday’s attack in the engineering department of Brown’s university in Providence, during the university's examination week.
Law enforcement reported on Sunday evening that a 24-year-man arrested in a raid at a hotel about around 27 kilometers from the scene earlier in the day was being released.
“There is a killer at large,” said Peter Neronha, Peter Neronha.
Neronha explained, “Occasionally a probe goes down a path, and then you have to regroup and pursue a different angle, and that is the current situation over the last day or so.”
Ongoing Concerns
The city's mayor, Brett Smiley, admitted: “It is expected to provoke renewed concern for our public”.
The assailant discharged a weapon inside a classroom in the engineering facility on over the weekend, firing more than 40 rounds from a 9mm pistol, a law enforcement official reported to the news agency.
Officers that raided the lodging found a pair of pistols and two ammunition clips when the person of interest was arrested, the news agency reported.
Those Hurt
Among those wounded, one student was allowed to go home, stated the university president, Christina Paxson. An additional seven were in serious yet stable state, and one was in critical condition, officials reported on Sunday.
A private school, a private K-12 school in the city of Durham, said a former student, Kendall Turner, was among those critically wounded.

Tributes were paid to Cook at a religious service in Birmingham on Sunday. A clergyman said, “Her presence was a wonderful, steady, pious glow not only here growing up... but at Brown University she was an incredible light in that specific location as well.”
The president of College Republicans, Martin Bertao, shared a message from the organization. “She was famed for her courageous, valiant, and compassionate nature as she served her chapter and fellow classmates,” he said.
The US ambassador, Jonathan Henick, said he was “deeply saddened” by Umurzokov’s death in a statement. “Our profound condolences go out to Mr Umurzokov’s family, loved ones, and peers and lament the passing of his bright future.”

Saturday’s killings at Brown, the country's seventh most historic college with about thousands of bachelor's and 3,000 graduate students, took place amid one of at least 392 mass shootings documented across the United States so far in the current year, according to records. The following Monday was the 349th day of the year.
