Toronto Blue Jays Earn Fall Classic Meeting Versus defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

Springer contributed to the Houston Astros winning the World Series in 2017.

Toronto's Blue Jays reached their first championship series after the 1993 season by beating the Mariners in the seventh Game 7 of the AL Championship Series.

Behind three runs to one, Springer delivered a three-run blast in the seventh frame, propelling the only Canadian franchise in the majors to a 4-3 victory in the seven-game series. Awaiting them are the Dodgers, who are the current crown, in the anticipated championship.

"It's incredible for our team, our city, Canada," commented Springer, a star of the Astros team that won the 2017 title. "What an amazing experience."

Springer has now slugged twenty-three October home runs, making him third in history behind Ramirez (29) and Altuve (twenty-seven).

"I can't think of another person anywhere that I'd prefer in that moment other than Springer with his playoff prowess," noted Schneider.

Seattle, despite leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, are still the one club that has never reached in a championship series.

Mariners manager Dan Wilson commented "there's no question that it's painful" in the wake of his club's elimination at Rogers Centre, but praised their efforts throughout the year.

"This is a unique group. Sadly that we finished on the losing end of this game," he added.

Toronto's team won the title on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and '93, and are set to host the Dodgers in the first game on the upcoming Friday.
